Sierra Club award for forest-saving foundation

Virginia has about 16 million acres of forested land. About 20% belongs to various government agencies, but nearly 60% is in private hands. Now, a nonprofit called the 500-Year Forest Foundation is trying to persuade individuals and families to preserve their trees, as Sandy Hausman reports.

Orange County sees red over plans for major development

Orange County is known for scenery and history.  It’s home to the James Madison Museum, Montpelier and the Wilderness Battlefield, but it may soon be known for another fight – this one over the public’s right to information about planned development.  Sandy Hausman has that story.

Scientists are learning more about the most endangered, and cutest, turtle in North America

Bog turtles are the tiniest turtle in North America, and also the most endangered. Their habitats are disappearing. Roxy Todd went along with biologists who are researching how many of these rare turtles still exist.
