The Boneta Bill & Property Rights

farmerrelatedVirginia’s small farmers are applauding proposed legislation that would guarantee their right to market byproducts related to the crops and other food they’re cultivating.  The Right to Farm Act was introduced in response to enforcement actions by Fauquier County against a local farmer, who was fined for allegedly violating zoning ordinances.  And as Virginia Public Radio’s Anne Marie Morgan reports, the bill’s advocates say many family farms will not survive if the state law is not clarified.

I am a 4th generation small family Virginia farmer. My family and I are hard working Americans and don’t receive a dime from the government. It is becoming harder and harder and more expensive for the small family farmer to survive. We are being suffocated by local county government over regulation and abuse of authority. We work the land with our hands and our hearts. it is crushing when a county takes away our property rights AND economic freedom.

Now we farm in fear in Virginia. There is something morally wrong when a county tells a farmer that he can’t sell a cookie or a muffin or maybe a bottle of water or even a postcard or a book about farming or a handmade birdhouse! It offends the most basic fundamental rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

This Bill will release the shackles that are strangling farmers and provide opportunity to save our small family farms. The Boneta story is a tragedy and an assault against all Virginians. Unfortunately, wolves in sheep’s clothing like the Farm Bureau and the PEC alleging to support the small family farmer are in fact driving us all into extinction.

It is unfathomable why Any elected official would oppose this Bill. I urge all Virginians to contact each and every candidate and elected official and ask them if they support The Boneta Bill for Freedom to farm without fear.

This is the most significant Bill of our time and will breathe hope, prosperity and opportunity in to Virginia.

Thank you Del. Lingamfelter for answering our prayers. Save our farms!
